The Flashman Papers - George MacDonald Fraser
It doesn't get more guilty pleasure than this. Deplorable protagonist framed on a well researched historical canvas. It's a pity Audible doesn't have book five, or I would keep going.

Prague Winter - Madeleine Albright
A history of a country that comprises half my heritage. Particularly compelling as my Jewish maternal grandparents escaped Europe at the end of the 1930s and suffered the same loss of family members who remained behind.

The Catalans - Patrick O'Brian
Enjoyed this far more than Richard Temple. It is amazing the difference a likeable protagonist makes.

The Midnight Palace - Carlos Ruiz Zafon
Nice prose, engaging setting, clever dialogue, initially compelling characters and a goddamn terrible plot. Alternatively predictable or incoherent. I was relieved to get to the end.
Also, Isabelle is the clever one right? O_o
